Solo practice of law concentrating on
criminal defense (80% or more), especially
operating while intoxicated . Practice also includes IRS problem resolution, business law, and real estate.
Office of St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney
Deputy Prosecutor.
Major Crimes Division and Drugs, Alcohol, and Firearms Team. Continue overseeing the investigation of all serious traffic crashes in addition to handling all aspects of the prosecution related to those crashes. Manage several " Major Crimes " cases, most involving charges of aggravated battery, burglary, forgery, robbery, theft, etc.
Drugs, Alcohol, and Firearms Team. Managed a large number of felony cases, most involving charges of operating while intoxicated and driving while habitual traffic offender, including serious injury and death cases. Worked closely with and advised police agencies investigating serious crashes. Also, had significant responsibilities for training Deputy Prosecutors in the Traffic and Misdemeanor Division.
Traffic and Misdemeanor Division. Duties included charging misdemeanor and felony cases, and representing the State's interests in various phases of the criminal process, such as arraignments, bond hearings, discovery matters, suppression hearings, plea-bargaining, and trials. Completed many trials.
Gary Griner practices law in many of the courts throughout Northern Indiana, particularly in St. Joseph County, Elkhart County, and surrounding counties. Most of his practice is in the area of criminal defense, especially operating while intoxicated.
Prior to forming his own law practice, Mr. Griner was a
deputy prosecutor in St. Joseph County. In that position, Gary started out in the
Traffic and Misdemeanor division, where he handled hundreds of misdemeanor cases and tried many operating while intoxicated cases. After gaining some experience, Gary Griner was promoted to the Drugs, Alcohol, and Firearms Team.
In the Drugs, Alcohol, and Firearms Team, Gary Griner managed a large number of felony cases, most involving charges of Indiana
operating while intoxicated (OWI) and Indiana
driving while habitual traffic offender, including serious injury and death cases. Mr. Griner worked closely with and advised police agencies investigating serious vehicle crashes. Also, Gary had significant responsibilities for training Deputy Prosecutors in the
Traffic and Misdemeanor Division. In that position, Mr. Griner took many operating while intoxicated
cases through trial.
Later Gary worked in the
Major Crimes Division and continued with the
Drugs, Alcohol, and Firearms Team. Gary Griner continued overseeing the investigation of all serious traffic crashes in addition to handling all aspects of the prosecution related to those crashes. At the same time, Gary Griner was responsible for managing several "Major Crimes" cases, most involving charges of aggravated battery, burglary, forgery, robbery, theft, etc.
Prior to working as a deputy prosecutor, Mr. Griner was an associate attorney in law firm. His work there covered a wide area of law.
Gary Griner earned his
Doctor of Jurisprudence at Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington. While in law school, he earned a Dean's scholarship and Dean's
Honors. Griner participated in an accelerated program. Also, Gary clerked for the prosecutor and public defender offices.
Prior to attending law school, Gary worked in the banking and financial industry for a couple of years. He graduated from
Franklin College of Indiana with a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude. Gary Griner majored in Business and earned a minor in Economics.
